Beethoven Piano Sonata in C sharp minor Op 27/2 (Moonlight)

Bach's 48 Preludes and Fugues need no introduction; they are not only the most famous pedagogical musical work every written but also great music. Jill's complete recording is released this year on Signum Classics. His Partita No. 1 was his first published work.

Mozart's Piano Sonatas were often written for teaching purposes; but we may speculate that K330 was one of those he brought back as a present for his sister on his first visit back to Salzburg from Vienna.

Beethoven's Moonlight sonata is one of his best-known works, and explores the interrelations between the traditional classical sonata and the freer epressivity of the new Romantic movement.
